This BladeCenter 2-port Fibre Channel Switch Module option is similar to the Ethernet switch, but contains two Fibre Channel connections capable of supporting up to 2Gbps transmissions. This switch option is required when an HS20 Fibre Channel Expansion Card is installed in one or more BladeCenter HS20s. Each HS20 Fibre Channel Expansion Card contains two Fibre Channel connections supported through installation of either one or two Fibre Channel switch modules. Installation of two BladeCenter 2-port Fibre Channel Switch Module options provides failover redundancy. The Fibre Channel switches are installed in network switch module bays 3 and 4 due to the routing of signals from the Fibre Channel card interface to the switch module bays. The Fibre Channel switch contains two small form factor pluggable (SFP) ports that support optionally available long- or short-wave SFP modules and appropriate Fibre Channel cabling. A BladeCenter SAN Utility is provided for switch management.

Features and Benefits:

· Enables connectivity from the 14 IBM BladeCenter HS20 blades to a Fibre Channel storage area network

· Install up to two Fibre Channel switch modules per chassis to provide failover redundancy

· Supports the latest 2Gbps Fibre Channel technology

· Minimizes rack space requirements; installs in IBM eServer BladeCenter chassis
